Refreshingly clean and a good read!

It is a clean romance that uses a good story line instead of sex and dirty language. I recommend it to any one who enjoys reading but has had it with the smutt.

The Salo Wedding curse was not something to trifle with. Or at least that is what Nana Vancy Bashalde Salo had told her family. Besides she should know she was the one who had cursed the family. Nana Vancy's husband-to-be, Bela, did not show up to their wedding. So she cursed him and his family that they would never have a perfect wedding until the marriage meant more than the wedding. Unknown to Nana Vancy was Bela didn't stand her up; he had been in an accident. As soon as he could he came back to her and the local priest married them. But what of her curse now?

Vancy Salo had everything under control. Her Nana Vancy had told her about the family curse so she had taken every precaution so that nothing could ruin her wedding. She had back up halls booked, two cakes, she made the priest have a physical; however she had a back up priest just in case. She had two of everything. Nothing could go wrong.... unless.... everything was there but the groom. Vancy hadn't thought of that happening. Now a local reporter had gotten a hold of her Nana's curse and reporters of every shape and size were out to get her story. What was she going to do she was a prisoner in her own home.

Matt Wilde had been working on a big landscaping proposal, when his doorbell rang, and rang, and rang. When he answered the door he found a wild-eyed woman, and two little boys. The woman said the boys were his. Matt knew this could not be true, his brother Mark's maybe but not his. Matt however was stuck with them for the time being, until he found his brother. What was he going to do with them? He had to work. He also had to go over to Vancy Salo's house now to find out what was wrong with her backyard. Little did he know the answer to his question was waiting for him there.

From the zany and fun world of Holly Jacobs mind comes the delightful story of Everything But a Groom. Ms. Jacobs takes a woman who has the world by the tail and turns it all up side down, with two wonderful little boys and a hunky man. This story is just what you need to relax during the crazy hustle and bustle of the busy holiday season.

What's a young woman to do when an inadvertent family curse placed by her own grandmother ruins her dream wedding? Business Lawyer Vancy Salo has just experienced disaster. After planning for every contingency against the possibility of a Salo Wedding Curse on her family, the one thing she never thought of is her downfall... her groom-to-be ditched her at the altar!

Matt Wilde is a busy man, putting all his energy into making his landscaping business, Everything Wilde, a success. The last thing he needs is anything else to require his attention, but that's just what he gets. When the twin sons of Matt's underachieving twin brother, Mark, are literally dumped on his doorstep, he needs help and fast! How convenient that Vancy is desperate to escape the media hounds after the next big story of her cursed family and needs a place to hide out.

So Matt and Vancy strike up a partnership... She'll act as a nanny to the boys temporarily, hiding out at Matt's, and she'll call in a few favors from her fellow lawyers to ensure the security of Matt's newfound relationship with the boys, Chris and Rick. Neither one of them expected that a more long-term arrangement would come out of their emergency situation. Can Vancy break the Salo Family Curse after all?

Holly Jacobs has done it again! Everything but a Groom is a heart-warming and uproariously funny story. Who else could write a book about a young woman in a moment of despair making a comment that accidentally turns into a family curse and tell the story in such a light-hearted way? I've come to expect these sweet and funny anecdotes from a Holly Jacobs novel and she never disappoints.

Vancy is a logical, practical young woman who tackles everything in her life with the same attention to detail that has made her a successful attorney. Unfortunately for her, she learns the hard way that logic isn't the answer to everything and sometimes it's the heart that really makes the decisions. This becomes especially obvious in Vancy's handling two adorably precocious young boys. Even those of us who don't have children of our own were young once and can relate to Vancy's escapades with Rick and Chris. You will be laughing out loud at many times throughout the story. (Does anyone want to make some lava?) All of the events unfolding are so vivid in the imagination that you too will find yourself envisioning much of the adventure.

The relationship that develops between Matt and Vancy (and the boys) is sweet and true, and will leave you dreaming of your own happy-ever-after, be it one that has already happened or is yet to come. They both have their doubts and insecurities to overcome but soon realize the best way to do that is with each other.

Of course no Holly Jacobs story would be complete without a whole passel of zany family members and supporting players. Everything but a Groom fits the bill quite nicely. From curse-wielding Nana Vancy and company to Mark the irresponsible twin brother of Matt, and newly-made grandparents Don and Marcy Wilde to the story-obsessed media, everyone is enjoyable to encounter and adds their own dash of joie-de-vive to the story. So put your feet up, grab a cup of your favorite beverage, and prepare to indulge in a crowd-pleasing humorous story about love and romance and family life. You are in for a treat with Everything but a Groom!

We live on the Tennessee river directly across from Hiwassee Isle. The island is the origination point for the wretched "Trail of Tears" march and is the winter home for thousands of Sand Hill Cranes with occasional rare Whooping Cranes". An ornithological paradise for someone interested.

Some stories better than others

My teenage son and I liked Volume 2 better. Volume 3 opens with a story called "Clown Court." This story is featured in the publisher description of the book, but we felt it was the weakest story in the book - very little action, and mostly bad guy posturing. There were also a few other stories in the beginning of the book that seemed to drag.

The book ended with a bang, however. "Uninvited guests" had an element of surprise and a lot of action with Batman's sidekicks. "End game" had Joker up to mischief supposedly from beyond the grave.

Nice stories, beautiful edition an a satisfying end for the Arkham story arc.

The Arkham Unhinged story arc has served as a side companion and hole-filler for the stories told by the videogame saga, mainly including Arkham Asylum and Arkham City (since Arkham Origins serves the same purposes, I see no need to fill blanks there). This third volume can be divided in two sections: first a group of stories regarding diferent characters and their vinculation with the events of the second game, and second (and the main event), the answer of the final destiny of the joker after the events of Arkham City.
As for the first section, the histories felt much more interesting that the ones presented in the previous volumes. They are told as perfect tie inns and, as you read them, you feel that the game experience and the comic are MEANT to be experience together. I love the way the "hangings" are presented, like: "is you want to know more about this story, play the videogame"....that encouraged me to play the game again (for the 5th time) in now the experience fell much more complete. For example, the scene of Blackmask's beating by Tygers at the beginning of the game made me much more sense after I read his story. Besides, the art is department made the right desition to stay put to the designs in the game.
As for the second section, regarding the fate of the Joker, I think is by far the best story presented in the Arkham Unhinged trilogy. For me, it gave a satisfying explanation and conclussion to the arc. This time the storytelling deviates from the style of previous stories and feeds up on the art style showed in the legendary comic "Arkham Asylum". This makes perfects sense, as the story in centered on the Joker figure and the madness surrounding him, which also add a darker tone for the Arkham series. I will not tell you more, just read it.
This is a very good purchase for any bat-fan and a MUST for the ones who palyed and enjoyed Arkham City.

Disappointing

I found the third volume in the Arkham Unhinged storyline to be downright disappointing. The artwork isn't that great and the stories seem to have been thrown together with little thought as to who and what Batman has been established to be. I found the first story Clown Court especially ridiculous. SPOILERS ahead. SPOILERS. SPOILERS. SPOILERS. What sense does it make for Batman to save the Joker's life? After all he has done. After "killing" Jason Todd, paralyzing Barbara Gordon, etc. With all that's going on in Arkham City, you're going to tell me that Batman would go out of his way to stop Two Face, The Penguin, etc. from killing The Joker? It's one thing for Batman NOT to kill him in battle it is something else entirely for him to actually save him. It's so outlandish it's ridiculous.

Creative yet boring

1) Technically, the book is well-written - a very pleasant reprieve from the hundreds of distracting errors in many free ebooks!
2) The plot is fairly unique, and at FIRST it seems interesting as we're offered a close look at death and becoming a ghost. If only the focus had remained there...

Those are 2 stars. Now for the 3 missing ones:

3) Nowhere in the synopsis is it mentioned that this is, for the most part, a Christian novel. A ghost story is advertised, but what's delivered is more theological than supernatural.
4) The repetition. This story could be shortened by half without losing anything. Well, except a lot of redundancy.
5) Characters! Where are they? It needs another character (or 5) to add some depth and round out a very flat environment.

Makes you laugh; makes you think!

I downloaded this book because it got good reviews, and also because the premise interested me.

It was a very entertaining read! Think "Ghost Whisperer" from the rather humorous vantage point of the ghost! ...I was caught up in the story immediately, and found it hard to put down. It certainly is a departure from the kind of book I normally read; but I loved every bit of it.

Long after the book was finished, I was still thinking about the ideas and metaphors about death and the hereafter, and so I started reading it again. I've told all my friends about it. Not often I do that!!

LOVED IT!!

I just "found" JR Rain and his novels, and I'm captivated! I first read Moon Dance, and it was good, but this was beyond GREAT! If you enjoy fantasy with ghosts and a little bit of theology mixed in..this is the book for you. I'm off to read more of Mr. Rain's novels...great job, and please keep them coming!!
