The author had a mid-air collision with a fellow competitor at 10,000ft while participating in the 2009 World Paragliding Championships in Mexico, as a member of the Greek National Team. Two thirds of the book describes his near-death experience while in induced coma, and the rest of the book, the key events in the intensive care unit and his repatriation to Greece.

Hello, my name is Apostolos and I was born again on the sixth of February 2009 in a hospital in Mexico. These are the somewhat intense memories from the first one and a half months of my new life.
About the Author
Paragliding was Apostolos' love and passion for over 20 years. He is a four time champion of Greece, and has participated in various international competitions as a member of the Greek National Team.

An extraordinary book

This book pulls you into the strange world that author experienced while in intensive care. It is full of strange and dreamlike images that are sad but at the same time profound. So many of the images revolve around paragliding, that you can't help but feel sad knowing that the author is losing one of his great loves in life: paragliding. His wrestling to stay alive in ICU is his last great paragliding competition! It is a must read for everyone.

This Man Flies!!!

The author chronicles his experiences during coma (and after) following a tragic paragliding accident nearly killed him, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. While a one star reviewer here missed it, he does a masterful job seamlessly meshing vivid otherworld experiences inside coma with his gradual transition to "normal" consciousness. As a lifelong student of Near Death Experiences (and having a few myself), I was pleasantly surprised with his absense of God/angels.
Perhaps most importantly, this book demonstrates dangerous sports can actually be very much sane activities. During coma, his fantastical experiences centered on paragliding and the fight for recovery. Bare bones flight is tattooed onto this man's soul! He now flies a specially modified light plane (the smallest he can experience).

A book that gives new insight every time it is re-read!

I read the book shortly after it was published in Greek. I could not get it off my hands. It was like nothing I had ever read before - so personal, so touching, so real and surreal at the same time. I read it again about a month ago and I believe it is one of the books that I will never part from during my life; it will always stay close by for me to read it again and again. Thank you, Apostolos, for sharing this experience with us!!
