Violence and Alcohol never looked so cute

Milk and Cheese are alcoholic dairy items that run around, beating people up and destroying everything in sight. You might think that couldn't sustain a 240-page book, but this isn't one long, continuous narrative. It's a collection of short strips (I don't think there's any individual story here that's longer than 6 pages), so it's more like reading a hate-filled, ill-tempered Calvin & Hobbes collection. And that's the way to handle this book - a few strips at a time. It probably would feel repetitive if you were to plow through the entire thing in one sitting.
Also, these strips are so densely-packed with jokes and mayhem, it takes a little while longer to read than your average comic. I read a lot of this material the first time around, and was pleasantly surprised to see that it held up well. Sure, no one goes around hollering about Merv Griffin these days, but no one really did when that strip came out in the first place.
This is a pretty comprehensive book, even down to including the covers to the issues, random pin-ups, even including all of the art for the M&C trading card set that came out in 1995, spread across two pages. But most importantly, this book is funny. Surely M&C will take on a target of ire that you share, and then you'll get it, if you haven't already gotten it by then.

To quote the book "They're not antisocial - They are anti-everything" sums the comic strip up quite well. If you remeber pop culture berween 1989 - 2011 you will appreciate the comics written and visual references/puns. Or if you ever visited NY or NJ some of the landmarks referenced should stand out too. Aside from that, the whole series is simply Milk & Cheese breaking things over people's heads, beating people up, throwing TV's and reeking utter havoc. The antics got old about 10 strips in. I had never heard of Milk & Cheese before - purchased the book on a whim as we needed something new and different. It was both.

A dark and hilarious evisceration of...EVERYTHING!

From the back cover: "They're not antisocial- THEY'RE ANTI-EVERYTHING!" I don't know if I could sum up Milk and Cheese any better than that! This hardcover collection of every MILK AND CHEESE strip up through 2010 contains mostly one to four page "stories(?)" where the Dairy Products Gone Bad take on everything from Jury Duty, to The War On Drugs, to Star Wars to Halloween to....you get the picture: they really do hate EVERYTHING! Dorkin is a great (although sick) sense of humor and is a really talented artist. Highly recommended!
