Truly unique page-turner.

"Now Playing" is entertaining and playful, yet at the same time dark and profound. When I started reading, I didn't know what to expect...but as the story progressed, I found myself entranced with the convoluted plot and theme up to the climactic twist at the finale. The main character is intriguing and charming, yet at the same time menacing and unpredictable; I found myself attached to him instantly. The best part about this story is the realism and applicability in light of the recent violent events at theaters, schools, etc. This piece provides a lighter, yet still sobering take on the consequences of a maverick individual in a tame society that is adherent to the norms of thought and action.

Thematic elements including tragedy, bullying, and a struggle for power contrast elegantly with instances of compassion, trust, and understanding. Overall, I came away from this piece with a curious and powerful investment to the main character's plight and psyche, as well as a new outlook on how deeply life's events can alter a person's psychology, behavior towards others, and perception of the world. Highly unusual, artfully composed, and definitely recommended.

Who will survive the Island of the Wolf?

Island of the Wolf is a taut, exciting thriller that brings the terror of being hunted by a monster to life. When a group of seemingly unconnected men and women are stranded on an island and told they are going to be tracked down and killed in retribution for betraying their kidnapper, the stage is set for a game of hide-and-seek where the losers die a horrible death. Will any of our characters make it off the island alive? Douglas Hawk sets the stage with great effect and the suspense never lets up. Though a relatively short novella, Hawk packs more punch into his story than most writers can in books three times as long. The characters are surprisingly well drawn considering the brevity of the narrative, and the werewolf action is dark and brutal. Highly recommended to all werewolf afficianados and anyone who appreciates a lean, efficient scarefest.

Werewolves!

This was a quick read, and super fun. The premise is fear-inducing and the action is to the point and plenty gory. If you like werewolves, this is your book. There are a few novels where folks are stuck on an island with a werewolf, and this one is a better example of those.

Werewolf Meets "Survivor TV"

Not the worst werewolf tale I've ever read by the long stretch, but not the greatest either (thus the 3 star rating).
Basically, five people plopped on an island have to avoid the werewolf eating them. Sort of like "Survivor The TV Show on Werewolf Island". Of course, a couple people do really stupid things, get eaten and the others try to avoid the same fate. I wish the character development had been a bit better, than I might have care more who got eaten, or not.
Worth a look if you are a great werewolf story fan, but otherwise just an ok monster story.

Great Series

I have read the entire trilogy, and I love it. The books were well written. The story flowed well for me. I enjoyed the entire cast of characters, some of which I could completely relate to. The feisty best friend was probably my favorite. I love a good laugh and she made me laugh quite often. There is action, suspense, love, romance, loss..not much in the emotional spectrum that was left untouched. It's not very often that I am caught off guard, but there are a couple of those "no way" moments within the series....Good Job S.J West!

If Kindle hadn't suggested this Book and it's predecessors, I'd have missed out on one of the most intriguing, fast paced, suspenseful, action packed, well written love stories of all time. I'll be reading The Watcher Chronicals, immediately following this review! S.J. West, please give us more!

I was a bit worried at first, seeing as no publishing information; just the covers, copyright page, and the story but it surprised me. I loved this trilogy! I couldn't put it down. The plot was captivating and entertaining. I would definitely recommend it to others.
